Review by Aleks Antonio

New York Dolls' album "New York Doll" is a raw and energetic rock and roll masterpiece. Released in 1973, it features the iconic lineup of David Johansen, Johnny Thunders, Sylvain Sylvain, Arthur "Killer" Kane, and Jerry Nolan.

Kane's bass lines provide a solid foundation for the band's signature sound, while Thunders' guitar work adds a gritty edge. Johansen's vocals are powerful and charismatic, and the band's overall energy is infectious.

The album's standout tracks include "Personality Crisis," "Trash," and "Jet Boy." These songs showcase the Dolls' ability to blend punk, glam, and classic rock influences into a unique sound that has influenced countless bands in the decades since.

In 1972, Sylvain Sylvain replaced Rivets and the band began to regularly play venues in Lower Manhattan, particularly at the . The band had varying levels of success, but were never widely accepted in the US outside the New York City area, primarily due to their appearance. Thunders and Nolan left the band while on tour in Florida in early 1975, and the band soldiered on, often being billed as "The Dolls" for a few more months with fill-in musicians. The New York Dolls reunited from 2004 to 2011, with Johansen and Sylvain anchoring a fluid lineup of backing musicians.
