Wings - 30 tahun

History of WINGS started around 1985 in Sri Ampang Secondary School in Kuala Lumpur when four young men join forces to form a school band. Due to their high motivation and interest in music, especially rock music, they decided to play Rock'N'Roll music during their performances.It is the birth of WINGS but at the time this group does not have a name. Original members are Awie, Jojet, Eddie and Sham. The break occurred in this group when Jojet joined Gersang and Sham set up a new group named Group CRK aftter their debut album Belenggu Irama . In early 1987, they got an offer to record an album under the label ASP and used WINGS as the name of the group. The idea to use WINGS as name as the name of the group triggered when friends always refers to Awie's muscular arm which looks like 'Sesayap' ( wings ). WINGS completed their first album titled Belenggu Irama ( Shackled Rythm) with the help of two new members, Eddie and Black (a former member of the group Babylon) who replaced Jojet This is when rock music began to find its place in the Malaysia music scene. The emergence of groups such as WINGS and Search started to excite the local music scene. WINGS come up with their own twists and musical style in the first album, which is considered one of the best debut album of all time. With good music, energetic vocals from Awie and assisted by well known composer like M.Nasir and JS Kevin, their effort started to bear fruit when the album was well received. Although their songs where banned by the government station RTM at that time, because of their long haired rock image, their album were still well received by music lovers..
